October 31st, 2007

  • XFilesNews opens its doors to create an active online fandom community that will also serve as a news and promotional vehicle for The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

November - December 2007

  • As pre-production news begins flooding in, XFN sets up a team of Vancouver correspondents.
  • The fandom grows nervous over an impending WGA strike, but hopes remain high.
  • Filming begins on December 10th, 2007 and almost immediately, XFN has video of David Duchovny and Amanda Peet dancing between takes.This will later become known to the fandom as “Twirlgate.”

January 2008 - March 2008

  • As news for Done One continues to flood in, XFN breaks the first pictures of the teaser from WonderCon while 5,000 fans show up to support the film.
  • When Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz arrive at PaleyFest with an even longer trailer, XFN is there.

April - May 2008

  • Done One gets its official title, The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
  • XFN arrives at New York Comic Con as press to cover Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz’s IWTB panel.

June - July 2008

  • The official X-Files website goes live and 20th Century Fox authorizes XFilesNews as the only official fansite for The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
  • XFN is linked to the official X-Files site.
  • The Chilean Expo gets underway and XFN correspondents in Chile are there to cover the event.
  • XFN attends the press screening of IWTB on July 18th and then hits the red carpet on July 23rd to interview The X-Files: I Want to Believe cast and crew.

August 2008

  • XFN correspondents attend the UK premiere of The X-Files: I Want to Believe in London’s Leicester Square.

Fall/Winter 2008 - 2009

  • XFN shifts its focus to promote the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of IWTB.
  • The Skype Files opens its doors at XFN and the XFN Worldwide Fan project, Place, films in 26 countries before screening at the IBG charity event in Beverly Hills for Frank Spotnitz.
  • Place goes on to be viewed over 400,000 times online.
  • XFN covers two signing events for The Complete X-Files: Behind the Series, the Myths and the Movies and at the second event, Chris Carter is asked by fans what they can do to get a third film greenlit. Chris Carter responds that fans should write to Fox and ask for it.

Spring 2009

  • XFN shifts its focus once again, this time to promote The X-Files as a franchise, and begins reporting on the cast and crew’s new projects unrelated to the series.
  • Frankenbear and the What Would Frankenbear Do? World Wide Tour for charity are born and XFN officially launches the Believe in the Future campaign.
  • In late spring, news of a possible third X-Files film launching by 2012 hits the internet and BBC Radio interviews XFN on air about the campaign for a third feature film.

Summer 2009

  • To celebrate the one year anniversary of the IWTB release, XFN launches IWTB Week and urges fans to purchase extra copies of the film to donate to charity.
  • XFN receives copies of the film from fans around the world and donates the DVDs to Cancer Research Foundation, Movies for Free, and AM Vets.
  • Amazon runs out of stock three times during the campaign and in forty eight hours, IWTB goes from a 5,000 ranking to 704.
  • In a conversation with Amazon executives, XFN is told this kind of rank jump had never happened for a film more than seven months past its DVD release.

Fall/Winter 2009

  • XFN launches the XFN Studio podcast with Frank Spotnitz as the inaugural guest.
  • The X-Con is held in Berlin and XFN is on hand to cover the event.
  • XFN ramps up efforts of the Believe in the Future campaign and delivers thousands of postcards, fan videos, and “Green Light” M&Ms to Fox Studios.
  • In a meeting with Fox executives, XFN discusses the fandom and the support for a third X-Files feature film.
  • XFN delivers Frankenbear, the World Wide Tour scrapbook, and a check for the Santa Monica UCLA Rape Treatment Center to Frank Spotnitz. XFN is featured in SciFiNow magazine.
  • When an earthquake rocks Chile, XFN lends its support to Grupo de X-Files Chile as fans work to raise money for Chile’s national relief campaign.

Spring 2009 - Fall 2010

  • XFN joins International X-Files status day, celebrating The X-Files via quotes from the series on social media for 24 hours.
  • XFN lends support to the recently founded heART: Fan Artwork for Charity, and helps the Australian Philes sell out a charity screening of The X-Files: Fight the Future in Brisbane.
  • XFN continues its support of fandom charity events to support SA-YES, Neurofibromatosis Inc, and Save the Waves.

Spring/Summer 2011

  • XFN kicks off a new phase of the Believe in the Future campaign and calls on fans to create XF3 fan posters and YouTube trailers.
  • The CarterFox World Wide Tour is launched to raise funds for Chris Carter’s charity, Save the Waves.
  • A magnitude 9.0 earthquake rocks Japan and XFN joins X-Philes for Japan to raise funds for disaster relief.
  • XFN kicks off the 10,013 Photos for a Greenlight campaign and soon liaisons in 32 countries, representing 6 continents, joining to show their support.
  • XFN co-produces the LAX-Files fundraising event in Los Angeles to raise money for the American Cancer Society in honor of the late Kim Manners.
  • XFN covers the theater launch of X-Files: The Musical by The Colonel Mustard Theater Company in Lincoln Nebraska.

Fall/Winter 2011

  • XFilesNews launches the first #XF3 Twitter campaign on September 10th to celebrate 18 years of The X-Files. Over 16,000 tweets are sent and actors Annabeth Gish and BD Wong throw in their support.
  • Entertainment Weekly releases a report that X-Philes are number 4 on the top 10 list of most popular fandoms.
  • XFN holds a second #XF3 Twitter Campaign on October 13th in honor of Chris Carter and Ten Thirteen Productions. The campaign begins at midnight October 13th in New Zealand and ends at midnight October 14th in hawaii. Over 32,000 Tweets are sent and #XF3 ranks at number 15 on Twitter's top 500 hashtags for the day.

2012-2013

  • XFN continues to hold Tweet-A-Thons and on the 20th Anniversary of Mulder and Scully meeting for the first time, March 10th 2012, #TXF3 trends Worldwide.
  • The Believe in the Future campaign will trend 14 more hashtags by 2014.
  • In July 2013, XFN teams up with the American Film Institute’s John Muto (Home Alone, Terminator 2 3-D) to organize The Art of The X-Files, an event held at the iconic Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles. The event brings together X-Files production designer Corey Kaplan along with Vince Gilligan and Chris Carter.
  • On December 21st 2013, XFN joins fans around the globe in a #GreenlightXF3 Tweet-A-Thon to celebrate the end of the Mayan calendar.
  • XFN releases a parody of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” entitled “Greenlight Baby” and interviews Chris Carter on the eve of The X-Files 20th Anniversary about his time on the iconic television series.
  • XFN live tweets The X-Files 20th Anniversary panel at San Diego Comic Con and holds a #XFTurns20 celebration; publishing letters sent to XFN from Michelle McLaren, Dean Haglund, Sheila Larken, Bruce Harwood, Laurie Holden, Mark Snow, Robert Patrick, Annabeth Gish, Gillian Anderson, Frank Spotnitz, and Chris Carter.

2014

  • XFN spends time promoting charity auctions to benefit SA-YES and Neurofibromatosis Inc.
  • In March, Frank Spotnitz is interviewed by 8 Art City and says the following about The X-Files: "It's going to happen...I think so...I think you will see David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson playing Mulder and Scully again. I do. I feel pretty confident about that, that's about all I can say."
  • XFN heads to NYCC and interviews Gillian Anderson and Joe Harris.
  • In October, Chris Carter acts as guest judge for XFN’s 5th Annual Halloween Pumpkin Carving Contest.
  • Rumors run rampant throughout the summer about the potential for The X-Files returning, only this time, to television.

2015

  • On January 15th 2015, news breaks that FOX TV is in talks for an X-Files revival and on March 24th 2015, FOX TV officially announces that The X-Files is returning for a 6-part television event.
  • XFN is interviewed by NPR and Pop Culture Tonight on the upcoming #XFilesRevival.
  • Chris Carter gives XFN an exclusive first in-depth interview and hints that the revival may not be the end of the franchise.
  • XFN teams up with Gillian Anderson and Doodle4NF to raise funds for Neurofibromatosis Inc.
  • Gillian stops by XFN at Wizard Con to talk about her recent projects and the new X-Files revival.
  • XFN’s videos of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson performing on stage at the Cutting Room in New York City to promote David’s new album, Hell or Highwater, go viral with over a quarter of a million YouTube hits in 6 days.
