Caroline Moore

It's FanArt Wednesday again! This week’s chosen artist is Caroline Moore from Maine. She is the person responsible for the Episode Series on Tumblr you may have stumbled upon. You can connect with Caroline through her website, Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram.

Here's a little about Caroline:

1. When did you become an X-Phile?

In 1997; I was in high school, and I didn’t have television to watch the show as it aired, so I bought all the episode guides, and I’d log onto the internet to read spoilers. If I was lucky, my friends would record episodes on VHS so I could watch them later.

2. What is the first episode you watched?

I remember seeing 'Shadows' at a friend’s house, but I think the first episode that really drew me in (and freaked me out) was 'Darkness Falls'.

3. What are you looking forward to seeing in the revival?

I’m hoping for a mix of all the things that initially captivated me; creepy monsters and spooky stories, a little bit of humor, lots of UST and maybe (maybe?) some MSR.

4. What inspired you to draw X-Files?

I got back into the fandom in 2013 after re-watching the series, and I had a long summer vacation with no plans. I started doodling X-Files fanart as a way to practice illustration techniques, which turned into a series of posters.

5. Who is your favorite character?

Scully. She felt real to me, like someone I could look up to and aspire to. In the earlier seasons, she was dowdy and chubby and kind of a geek—all things I could relate to at 14. But she was brave, she was smart, she didn’t take any crap from anyone, and she was genuine.

6. List your top 5 episodes.

This is *so hard*, because I think about the show in terms of favorite scenes rather than favorite episodes, but these are the ones that I can watch over and over: 'Beyond the Sea', 'Milagro', 'How the Ghosts Stole Christmas', 'Eve', and 'Redux II'.

7. Favorite X-Files quote.

“You were my friend, and you told me the truth. Even when my world was falling apart, you were my constant, my touchstone.”

8. How has The X-Files impacted your life?

In so many ways. As a kid, it showed me what partnership could look like — a romance that wasn’t about lust, but about friendship, trust, and respect. I met my husband when I was 17, and thinking of him as a partner and friend has helped our relationship stay solid for almost 16 years. When I was struggling with depression, The X-Files was a welcome distraction, and a creative outlet for writing and drawing. It inspired me and gave me something to get excited about when it was hard to get out of bed in the morning. Putting on a favorite episode is like sitting down with an old friend for a chat. The characters and their stories continue to fascinate me, and I feel like I’ve grown up with them. I’ve never had that kind of experience with another television show.

Thanks, Caroline! See you next Wednesday for a new artist!
